Batten down the hatches. Strike the colours. The pirates are back. The ENO’s smash-hit production of Gilbert & Sullivan’s swashbuckling farce returns shortly – and is set to get audiences toe-tapping along all over again.
Overview With its splendidly silly storyline, wild wordplay and well-loved songs, this Mike Leigh-created production is irresistibly feel-good. An apprentice pirate woos the Major General’s daughter, while his bungling buccaneer-shipmates try to outwit an equally inept party of policemen. Its vibrant staging brings out the sunshine in the story.

Very enjoyable show. Booking on line very straightforward. Balcony seats bearable but a little uncomfortable. view and sound fine and great value at £13
Brilliant
Excellent, very enjoyable. Great singing and acting. Orchestra also very good.
Good view but leg room was a bit restricted for my 6' tall husband
Excellent production; singing was great but some of the dialogue wasn't clear.
500 miles and £200 with the single aim of seeing sir John Tomlinson. Then he was ill and understudied. Difficult to be positive.
Excellent G & S silly story great music and good fun. An excellent performance by the ENO.
Excellent production, great staging and singing.Might have been better on a smaller mor intimate stage.
I purchased tickets for The Pirates of Penzance for my elderly mother for her birthday. My maternal grandfather had been a great fan of Gilbert and Sullivan operas and had compiled a bound book of libretti over the years which my mother brought with her to London. My parents enjoyed a wonderful performance by the company. My father has AMD and mobility problems but was welcomed and assisted by all the staff at ENO, so thank you to all for your assistance. They also enjoyed a very pleasant lunch in the restaurant downstairs before the matinee. They thoroughly enjoyed the quality of the voices and would highly recommend this production.
We enjoyed our visit to the Coliseum to see the Pirates of Penzance but had a seat in the dress circle(row K) and were unable to see the screen above the stage which showed the ongoing story. This spoilt the first half. We moved seats and thought the second half was wonderful. Peter Frowde
